LINCOLN, Neb. (KMTV) - It’s hummingbird season in Nebraska, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.
Hummingbird season has arrived in Nebraska, time to put up a feeder! http://t.co/4gz351X3nC— NE Game and Parks (@NEGameandParks) August 4, 2014
In a blog post for the commission’s magazine, NEBRASKAland, Nongame Bird Program Manager Joel Jorgensen shared tips for attracting the birds.
Jorgensen explained how to make nectar and the best place to put a feeder.
“Boil water, add sugar so that you have a mixture that is four parts water, one part sugar. Stir the sugar so it is dissolved. Store in the fridge so it remains relatively fresh,” he wrote.
Jorgensen says four types of hummingbird migrate through Nebraska: ruby-throated, furous, broad-tailed and calliope.
