Girl Found After 2 Hour Lake Search
Carter Lake/Omaha - An Omaha girl could face charges after police spent two hours trying to rescue her from Carter Lake.
Emergency crews were called to the lake around 3:00 a.m. Tuesday. Officers saw a group of people drinking and swimming at the lake and told them all to get out of the water. Everyone did except a 19-year-old girl, who swam away.
They used a search boat, wave runners and the police helicopter to try to find the girl. Officers then used infrared and didn't locate her in the water, so they called of the rescue operation around 5:00 a.m.
About 45 minutes later, police found the girl at 60th and Grover in Omaha. She had made it all the way across the lake, and home. Someone had given her a ride.
Her parents drove her to the Carter Lake Police Department they then turned her over to Pott County Corrections.
She is charged with underage drinking and interference with official acts.
