Omaha, NE - "Later we figured out that yes, this resident was part of our department."
13 years ago Dr. Anthony Garcia fought for a residency spot in the Department of Pathology at Creighton University.
"We get about 200-300 applicants, we select approx 60 to interview and eventually 3 or 2 depending on the year are selected."
From July of 2000 to June 2001 Garcia worked side by side with doctors and patients. He went over case material and released medical reports.
"Some faculty who works here has worked with Dr. Garcia, I have not had any discussion about their experiences with Dr. Garcia." Interim Chair of the Pathology Department, Dr. Poonam Sharma never met Garcia. She wouldn't discuss the details of his termination in 2001. "I do not have more info for you about his behavior or the reason for dismissal."
The murders Garcia is accused of, have Creighton Pathology staff in shock.
"It was on our minds, every day we wondered, even if we didn't talk about it, we wondered how far the investigation is, do we have any leads? We had the same questions that you guys had."
