Omaha, NE -- There's nothing like coming face to face with nature. Exhibitors were busy Thursday morning at the CenturyLink Center bringing in every type of livestock, from the biggest to the just born. "We've had probably a dozen already this morning, which one is Wilbur?" said Dennis Toalson with Southeast Community College. As kids and adults try to figure out who's who, Toalson is casually teaching about the swine industry and a little about life. One sow is at the event for a live birthing demonstration. That's right, she'll deliver 11-14 piglets right for everyone to watch. It even caught some adults off guard. "She didn't have any idea that pigs got that big." said Toalson.
As spectators watch life unfold, cowboys are hoping to change their life by placing in the River City Rodeo. The best of the best will compete this weekend for a chance to compete in the national finals in Las Vegas. KC Jones is a steer wrestler from Texas, one of the top 12 in the country. Surprisingly, he's not worried. "As much relaxed as you can get tackling farm animals," said Jones. He's relaxed and hoping to walk away with some serious cash. "If you do really good here, you go in around $20,000," said Jones.
The rodeo four day event has a big impact on the Omaha economy. It's expected to bring in an estimated $21.3 million over the weekend.
