Cat Found With Arrow Through Its Legs

By Kimberly Foley. CREATED May 8, 2014

Omaha, NE - A cat is recovering at the Nebraska Humane Society after being shot with an arrow.

On Wednesday, a man found the cat near 68th and Pacific Streets with an arrow through his legs.

"(He) saw a cat walking, primarily pushing, on his front legs," said Mark Langan of the Nebraska Humane Society. "The guy looked down, and the cat had arrow impaled in him. (He) called us right away. (We) rushed him immediately to a veterinarian for treatment."

Langan said the injuries are so severe the cat could need more surgeries.

"Absolutely uncalled for," he said. "No reason to do it at all. The cat went through a lot of suffering."

It has earned the cat a new name: Archer.

Langan said Archer does not have a microchip so they're not sure who his owner is.

"We'd like to find this person to let them know what happened to the cat and the kind of treatment the cat is getting here at the Nebraska Humane Society," he said.

Archer may have used up his nine lives surviving the attack.

Langan said unfortunately, this is not the last senseless act of animal cruelty they will see.

"We see some terrible things done to cats in the city of Omaha by people who just have no regard their safety, no regard for their well being," he said. "For some reason, cats are frequent targets for things like this."

There is a $2,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
