Blair, NE-- It was calm after the storm, but you could still see the damage all over Blair Tuesday night. Earlier in the day, a quick rush of strong winds and heavy winds knocked down trees and power lines, and caused massive damage.
Teachers at Blair South School told KMTV they lost two classrooms from trees coming through the ceilings. Tuesday night, cut branches and ripped tiles were all that was left. Classes will start on Monday.
The cleanup lasted for hours into the evening too. Lori Schlauter enlisted the help of her family, neighbors and friends, to assist with the mess left behind from a quick early morning storm that took many by surprise.
"We're just laughing and joking and saying how lucky we are that it didn't hit the house," Schlauter said.
And though by surprise, one neighbor is urging others not to be taken surprised by scamming contractors. The BBB warns against unlicensed workers trying to make a quick buck. Sarah Detjens said she was approached twice this morning.
"Two different times, they rolled up. One guy just handed me a handmade business card," Detjens said. "It's just the lowest of the low. People of Blair have big hearts, and I don't want anyone to be taken advantage of."
