Omaha, NE-Eriana Carr was murdered in 2012, but one of her classmates has started a petition to make sure the honor student would receive an honorary diploma.
"I want them to give a diploma with her name on it. And her mom to be able to walk up with her urn and receive it," Wellicia Jones told Action 3 News.
A drive-by shooter killed the Benson honor student October 31, 2012. Eriana would have been 17 by now and ready to graduate this Spring.
Jones said today, when she saw a picture of Eriana in a cap and gown, she was inspired to make sure her friend got the rite of passage so many high school students do.
In an afternoon, she drafted a petition. In hours, it had already received almost 100 signatures.
"This is not the end of her journey. She may be gone but spiritually she still lives within us," Jones said.
