Benson Community Helps Replace 8-Year-Old's Stolen Bike

CREATED Jul. 20, 2013

Omaha, NE -- Someone stole 8-year-old Hailey Moford's Hello Kitty last week, and on Saturday, the community helped replace it.

Hailey discovered the bike had been stolen from her home, near the 33 hundred block of North 57th Street on Monday.

She spent 40 hours over two weeks pulling weeds and trimming bushes to help pay for half of the bike.

The Benson Neighborhood Association decided to help replace it. On Saturday, Hailey got her new bike.

"Hopefully she will carry this into her adult life and remember what it was like to be violated by a theft, and what it was like to feel the goodwill and charity of others," said Bill Morford, Hailey's dad. "Hopefully she will put that forward in her life toward other people."

The Moford's said they can't thank the community enough for replacing Haily's most prized possession.
