BREAKING: Omaha Firefighters Cleared of Any Potential Criminal Behavior
Omaha, NE - Late Friday afternoon, Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer cleared the fire department of any possible criminal behavior.
Pictures were sent anonymously to Mayor Jean Stothert this week. They show a woman posing with two firefighters and on a fire truck on Saturday at Fire Station 33.
Fire Chief Mike McDonnell had begun his own internal investigation when on Tuesday, the mayor told him to stop. She said Chief Schmaderer approached her and volunteered to investigate. Mayor Stothert said a police investigation, even though the fire department has its own internal affairs team, would ensure the public that an impartial investigation would be done.
Chief Schmaderer's investigation found claims that criminal behavior may have taken place were largely unsubstantiated. He did say there could be workplace rules violations. He will forward that information onto Chief McDonnell for any disciplinary action, if McDonnell sees fit.
