Omaha, NE- As authorities hunt down whomever killed Andrea Kruger, family and friends a remembering a woman who always had a smile on her face.
Kruger would have tended bar at The Cove Friday night. But instead of serving drinks, friends gathered just like they do every week, this time it was different, someone special was missing.
"It was just a matter of being shocked I mean she's such a wonderful person and how could anyone possibly do such a horrible thing to such a great person." says William Hoyt, who was a friend and customer of Andrea's at The Cove.
They are questions those close to Andrea Kruger want answered.
"People are still trying to absorb what has happened and try to understand and internalize how someone in a random act is gone." says Scott Vander Schaaf, a friend of Andrea's.
Friday night at The Cove is where you could have found Andrea, behind the bar laughing and smiling.
"It's tough already, she's usually back there being the life of the bar getting everyone entertained so it's a hard time being here right now." says Hoyt.
"The smile was the thing that caught my attention as well as everybody here, she was always happy, had a smile on her face and was someone who really enjoyed just life and I think her family." says Vander Schaaf.
The Cove is taking donations from customers to give to Andrea's family. The same thing is happening at Déjà Vu, the bar Andrea was tending the night of her murder.
"Working at night until 1 or 2 in the morning 3 nights a week and keeping a home and cooking, like I said, she's the salt of the earth." says Jimmy Goldfaden, who knew Andrea from Déjà Vu.
Jimmy Goldfaden is a regular at Déjà Vu, he says there's always someone at the bar making sure the girls get home okay.
We have a couple police officers that come in, they walk them to their cars, it's a close knit bar, it's not a club, where you don't know anybody it's a close knit bar." says Goldfaden.
No matter which bar she worked at, friend were always around the corner.
"It's pretty amazing how close the group is, it's hard for everybody." says Hoyt.
The Cove will be holding a fundraiser in Andrea's name on September 1st. déjà Vu will also hold a fundraiser at a future date.
