HARLAN, Iowa (AP) - A 72-year-old former teacher in western Iowa has been arrested on charges he had sexual contact with a 17-year-old student.
The Iowa Department of Public Safety says police arrested Lee Nelson, of Harlan, on Tuesday and charged him with sexual exploitation by a school employee and assault with intent to commit sexual abuse.
He was being held at the Shelby County Jail on $7,000 bond.
Nelson is accused of making sexual comments and inappropriately touching the girl while he worked as a band teacher. An affidavit says the incidents occurred at school, on band trips and at Nelson's home.
The student and her parents contacted police in May.
Nelson worked for the Harlan school district for 35 years before resigning April 22.
It wasn't clear whether Nelson has an attorney.
