West Omaha Car Thieves Strike
Omaha, NE-Neighbors in the Autumn Ridge neighborhood of West Omaha woke up Tuesday to find an unpleasant surprise; wheels, tires, and rims missing from the cars parked in their driveway.
The vehicles left, lifted on landscaping blocks.
"It's one of those things that takes your breath away," Bill French said.
His 20-inch tires were taken from his Jeep, parked outside only one night. He was getting his tires replaced Tuesday afternoon.
"There were still lug nuts scattered around, about 12 on the grass, and 5 or six in the driveway," French said.
Tim Knust found the same thing in his front drive.
"Then you get frustrated when the Fed Ex guy comes and says 'oh I've seen about 8 or 9 of these today'," Knust said.
Police wouldn't say how many, but they did confirm several car break-ins and say they are taking them seriously.
Knust estimates it will cost $4300 dollars to replace the rims and tires to his suburban.
This evening, KMTV got a call into our newsroom from someone living in the Harvey Oaks neighborhood. The area on 148th & W. Center was hit Sunday night.
