USA Baseball Will Take on Cuba in Omaha
Omaha, NE - For the first time since 1996, USA Baseball and the Cuban Baseball Federation will compete in the United States.
The teams will start off their five-game series on July 18th at Principal Park in Des Moines.
Then on July 19th and 20th they'll head to Omaha. The Omaha Storm Chasers and the Omaha Sports Commission will host games two and three at Werner Park.
“The Omaha Sports Commission is very pleased to partner with the Omaha Storm Chasers in bringing this exciting baseball action to Omaha. We think that the baseball enthusiasts of Omaha will come out and support this venture,” said Harold Cliff, President of the OSC.
Tickets went on sale at the Werner Park ticket office on Tuesday, June 18th at 10:00 a.m. Fans can also order tickets online at omahastormchasers.com.
The teams will finish up the series on July 22nd and July 23rd in North Carolina.
This will be the second consecutive year the Collegiate National Team programs will compete. Last year, they played a five-game friendship series in Havana after a 16-year break. Cuba won the series, 3-2.
“We are extremely excited to host the Cuban National Team this year,” said USA Baseball Executive Director/CEO, Paul Seiler. “Renewing our friendship series last year was a historic step for two countries that share an extremely rich baseball history. We hope with the success last year in Havana and this year’s series in the United States, we will build the foundation to continue this series for the foreseeable future.”
