Surprise Truck Inspections Net 372 Violations
Truck drivers in Sarpy County made an unexpected detour Wednesday. Police agencies set up surprise inspections.
They were mainly cracking down on commercial vehicles that might not always travel on the interstates, or regularly pass through weigh stations. Police looked for all kinds of violations like weight, size and registration.
Authorities inspected 82 trucks Wednesday, and found 372 violations. 37 vehicles were taken off the streets because those trucks had either bad brakes or tires, or other immediate safety risks. Police issued nearly $9,000 in fines.
Inspections were conducted by the Maps Team which is made up of the Nebraska State Patrol, the Sarpy County Sheriff's Office, and Bellevue Police Department. More inspections will come throughout the summer.
