Council Bluffs Water Rescue
Council Bluffs, IA - The boating season is just beginning and already, Council Bluffs Fire and Rescue are out on the water saving lives.
Tuesday morning police received a call that a man fell out of his fishing boat into Lake Manawa while trying to retrieve his fishing pole. The man struggled to get back in his boat.
A second man jumped in to help. Both struggled to get out of the water safely.
By the time Council Bluffs Fire and Rescue arrived, both men were back in their fishing boat, one was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons.
Assistant Fire Chief Justin James says by Iowa law, boaters must have life vests in the boat. It's unclear whether the boat was equipped with vests.
James says this is the first call he is aware of this year for a water rescue in the city but as the temperatures heat up, the calls will increase.
