Omaha, NE -- A judge ordered a 23-year-old Terrece Cox be held without bond for the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge murder and shooting on May 29th.
Three people were shot, and left for dead last Wednesday at 1 am on the heavily used Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge. Police say there was some sort of fight before shots rang out. Kevin Jenkins and Jeremy Fejeran survived the shooting, but 26-year-old Shamari Richards died at the hospital.
Police arrested Terrece Cox on Friday, he faced a judge Monday. His mother, Richetta Henry, says she hasn't spoken with her son, but says she struggles to come to grips with what he may have done.
"I wouldn't imagine him going to these lengths. I will say he has had some situations with the law but to this degree no I wouldn't,” Henry said.
Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine told KMTV Action 3 News there wasn't a lot of evidence to suggest the murder was pre-meditated, which is why Cox is charged with 2nd Degree Murder. He also said they're still interviewing witnesses.
“I just have a gut suspicion that the obvious took place but there was a lot going on that night. I can't say which way but I do offer my condolences to the family of the victim," Henry explained.
A search warrant indicates numerous pieces of evidence were at the scene including two cell phones. Cox's mother says something's got to change so mothers aren't left to mourn the deaths of their sons, or wonder why another son could do this.
"This situation is bigger than Mr. Richards and my son, this is a mentality of the young folks nowadays in Omaha and it's ridiculous because we suffer,” Henry described. “We suffer the parents, the family members, we're the ones that are really suffering behind this and I want them to get it together, pull it together."
Cox was charged with 7 felonies, which accuse him of shooting all the victims. A judge ordered him to be held without bond. Billy Kellogg is accused of being an accessory to the crime.
