Omaha, NE-- "The Omaha Police Department's not going to sit idly by while gang violence hurts our community." Omaha's Police Chief, Todd Schmaderer, not mincing words when it comes to fighting crime. With help from a team of other local law enforcement, Thursday morning started with Operation Purple Haze, an aggressive search, all out hunt for high profile violent gang members. In the end, four men arrested.
"I think many of the investigations that we do take us to other parts of the city," said Schmaderer. "They take us outside the metro area." Rick Gilbreath has lived in La Vista since 1976. Someone recently robbed his neighbor so he's pleased police are going after top offenders' hard core. I'm concerned about it," said Gilbreath. "I understand that crime has gone up a bit in the last few years here and I'm concerned that it might spill over into La Vista."
Omaha Police say when you get down to it, only a select few bad guys carry out the most violent crimes but they know no boundaries. That's why Omaha and other agencies aren't playing around when it comes to solving and preventing crime.
