Council Bluffs, IA - Someone sent a letter containing a sack of white powder to the Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Office. A mail sorter opened the letter Thursday morning and immediately informed her supervisor.
"At this point, I believe she did everything correctly," said Lt. Dwayne Riche with the Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Office.
The package contained a plastic bag containing a small amount of unknown white powder and a hand-written note. The Hazmat team transported the powder to a secluded area, and says it doesn't appear the substance is toxic. They haven't said what it was.
The letter contained a return address, but investigators won't say what it is. They did say the letter came from Iowa and was addressed to the Council Bluffs Sheriff's Office, although no such agency exists.
