A man shot at police right outside an elementary school at around 2am Friday morning.
The shooter, 21-year-old Tyrone Wells, is now behind bars at the Douglas County Jail. He's being held on a total of 9 felonies including two counts of Attempted Assault of an Officer.
Around 2:00am Friday, police responded to a shooting and found the suspect sitting on the steps of the Miller Park Elementary School at 28th Ave. & Ellison Ave. Officers say Wells started firing at them before they could get out of their vehicle. Police were able to take him into custody without having to fire back.
Authorities grabbed the 9 millimeter gun that wells used, and found 7 shell casings at the scene. They say the gun turned out to be stolen from a home about a year ago. Police believe wells also shot at a woman's car hitting her, and shot at least one near-by home.
"One thing about living around here is you never know when somebody's going to act a fool. So you keep your eyes and ears open at the same time, you pay attention to everything," said resident Alan Duncan.
Wells will likely face a Douglas County Judge on Monday.
