Omaha, NE-- On Saturday, more than 100 people came together to celebrate life and to raise awareness at the Jeff Ahl Memorial Poker Run.
"He was a man who loved people," said his wife Deb Ahl. "(He) got to know people very well. (He) cared about everybody. He loved to ride his bike. He loved to be outdoors. He was just a really good person."
Jeff was killed on May 23, 2012 when another driver didn't see him on his motorcycle and turned in front of him.
"We've done an awful lot of praying," said Deb. "All of us have had support groups through our church, our family, my work and the kids' schools."
Nearly one year later, a celebration of life is taking place.
The motorcyclists left from Gretna Saturday morning. They stopped in Yutan, Fremont and Blair before heading back to Gretna.
"I think Jeff would be behind the tables with all of us," said family friend Eric Hansen. "He would be the one actually organizing it because that was his strong suit."
The group was not only memorializing Jeff, but also raising awareness about safety on the roads.
"We're just trying to get everybody to take a couple more seconds, take another quick look, specifically looking for us," said Hansen.
A second glance is something this group hopes every driver remembers.
"They can be difficult to see so we just ask that you look twice because that can save a life," said Deb.
Friends and family said they plan to do many more of these rides in the future.
