Omaha, NE - Police found Creighton professor Dr. Brumback and his wife, Mary, murdered in their home on Tuesday. On the Creighton campus, Dr. Brumback's colleagues, students and friends held a prayer service for the couple on Thursday.
When word spread across campus about the death of Dr. Brumback, it left many in disbelief, asking how could this happen to such a caring person. At a prayer service, colleagues say the couple were perfect for one another.
The Creighton campus will remember the doctor for the legacy he leaves behind. His students say the self-described born again conservationist and author was a passionate researcher and teacher. Students and staff on campus grieve as the confusion settles in and say the only way to heal is to care for one another as Dr. Brumback would.
Medical student Steve Brannan says his professor once taught him how to grieve for the loss of patients, now he is using that lesson to grieve for his late teacher. "I feel like this is one of those times where there are questions and no easy explanation and all we can do is be there for each other," says Brannan.
Even though questions about his death remain, his friends and students say the only thing they need to remember is Dr. Brumback's passion for his work and the mark he leaves behind.
