Emotions ran high. It was the one and only chance for the Council Bluffs School Board to hear from the public about closing Walnut Grove Elementary in 2014. Some even struggled to get their point across.
The school is old and in need of a 10-million dollar repair. The most cost-effective option, closing the school and sending students to other schools. Last year a committee studied the best ways to modernize the schools and says it took months to get to this decision. Some parents criticized the committee for taking only four months
They believe more effort and time should be put into saving what they consider to be a historic part of the community. One parent event vowed if the school closes she's left with only one option, take her grandson out of the school district.
