UNL Revises Graduation Plans Again

CREATED May. 2, 2013

Lincoln, NE - After complaints from students and parents, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has again revised Saturday's graduation program.

Wednesday, UNL announced graduates would receive their diplomas in the Hawks Championship Center instead of outside in Memorial Stadium; but the Hawks Center is too small to accommodate the 14,000 expected guests. Graduates and their families would then go to stadium for the rest of the ceremony including the commencement address.

Thursday, the University announced the graduates will walk across the stage in the stadium after all. They will receive diploma covers, and pick-up their diplomas later in the morning.

"We understand the importance of family and friends seeing their loved ones be recognized on stage for their academic accomplishments," said UNL Chancellor Harvey Perlman. "This arrangement, while maintaining the abbreviated nature of the program, allows these important moments to occur on Saturday."

The graduation ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. The KMTV Weather Alert team is forecasting temperatures Saturday morning in the low 40's; morning showers are likely.

If the weather becomes severe and the ceremony must be canceled, graduates and their families will go to the Hawks Center at a staggered designated time by college to receive their degrees.

A list of assigned times for each UNL college will be posted athttp://commencement.unl.edu.
