Omaha, NE -- On Thursday, there was happiness on the hill.
Creighton's Doug McDermott has decided the NBA can wait, and he will play his senior year at Creighton.
It's a decision that was not easy for the two-time All-America forward, but it's one he's sure of.
Doug's mom, Theresa, told Action 3 News she could not be more thrilled.
"I was pretty excited," she said. "Obviously, I'm a mom, and my instinct would be to get your degree. That's just such a gift to get a degree from Creighton. (It is) not to be taken lightly or for granted."
Theresa said Doug took his time and put a lot of thought into what the next step for him would be.
"Just to see him so torn, obviously, was really hard," said Theresa.
The decision to stay or move on to millions of dollars was not only difficult for Doug, but also for his family.
"We're all going to sleep really well tonight," said Theresa. "I'll put it that way."
It's not only the McDermott family celebrating Doug's decision to stay.
Other student athletes are looking forward to what he will continue to do for the entire athletic program.
"I think it will help us student athletes," said Kyla Booker. "(Hopefully it will) bring more people to our games and make people being more aware of where our school is."
On Thursday, the decision to finish school was celebrated campus-wide, but Theresa is looking to his future.
"I understand that sometimes in the business when you're hot, that's when you get out," she said. "I get all that, but as a parent of a 21-year-old, I just feel like if (the NBA) wanted him that badly this year, I think they're going to want him more next year. That's how I'm going to have to think."
