Omaha, NE- An Omaha police detective who led a three-year sex crime investigation has been named the Omaha Crime Stoppers Officer of the Year.
Detective Amber Schlote headed the investigation that led to the arrest and conviction of Daniel Mangiamelli. Mangiamelli used his lawn care business to lure young boys for sex. He pleaded no contest and will be in jail for the rest of his life.
Detective Schlote told KMTV Action 3 News, "When the judge handed down that sentence of 195 to 310 years, it was like a huge weight. It felt good to know he would never get out."
Schlote also said she has a passion for protecting children, "I truly believe in the work that we do, in order to save and protect these kids."
Crime Stoppers recognized twenty officers Tuesday for extraordinary service.
