Suspected Serial Rapist Under Arrest
Omaha, NE - Omaha police have arrested 41-year-old Anthony Vaughn, accusing him of five counts of sexual assault.
Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine told Action 3's Craig Nigrelli on Sunday, "A very dangerous man is off the streets." Kleine believes Vaughn is responsible for five rapes between 1999 and 2009, in places such as Midtown and South Omaha.
He says the Nebraska State Patrol was able to pinpoint Vaughn to the sexual assaults through his DNA. Vaughn pleaded guilty to felony burglary in September of 2011. As part of that plea deal, he had to submit DNA samples. The Douglas County Attorney told us the State Patrol ran Vaughn's DNA profile through the FBI's DNA index system, called CODIS and it was a match. Kleine says he learned of the development this past week. Action 3 News informed him that police had now arrested Vaughn.
Omaha police would not release Vaughn's mugshot late Sunday night saying the investigation is ongoing. Kleine called the break in the case, "very important, a big deal."
