Omaha Begrudgingly Braces for Winter Weather

CREATED Apr. 10, 2013

Omaha, NE- Hail, snow, and sleet. Winter weather had made a comeback across Nebraska Tuesday. The calendar says Spring, but the temperature says Winter. And Nebraskans are saying no thanks.

"It stinks! I prefer nice spring weather and I can't wait for it to get here," Ron Veys of Milford said as snow fell Tuesday afternoon.

Up to 4 inches of snow is expected from a spring storm over much of central and northeast Nebraska.

National Weather Service meteorologist Becky Kern says "a mixed bag" has been falling over northeast Nebraska: some snow, some freezing rain, some sleet. Kern says the weather should transition to all snow early Wednesday afternoon and continue into Thursday, with totals ranging from 2 to 4 inches.

Storms carrying heavy rain and large hail crashed through much of eastern Nebraska overnight into Wednesday. Kern says hail up to 2 inches in diameter damaged vehicles and buildings in western Omaha.

"I was sleeping in my bedroom and I heard this loud noise and I said, well who's throwing something? Rocks at my house?" Julia Oliver of Omaha said.

An inch and a quarter of rain in the past 24 hours was recorded at the weather service office in Valley.
