Smart Parking Meters Popping Up in Omaha
Omaha, NE - Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle announced the city is installing 400 smart parking meters in the Old Market and downtown area on Tuesday.
The high-tech meters allow drivers to pay with credit cards or coins.
The city plans to then install another 600 meters bringing the total to 1,000. They'll be focused in the areas between the Old Market and Civic Building.
The City's Parking Manager, Ken Smith, said in a statement, "The additional payment features should be welcomed by both customers who are no longer limited by the number of quarters in their pocket and merchants who won't have to make change."
Mayor Suttle said, "We believe that offering these options will improve compliance at parking meters, increase revenue for the City, and decrease the number of tickets issued to motorists."
