UPDATE: OPD Officer Now on Paid Leave After Arrest
Omaha, NE - One of the Omaha police officers under investigation for excessive force has now been placed on paid administrative leave. Two others have been reassigned.
OPD has not identified the officers.
The action follows the arrest of three men last week at 33rd and Seward. A cell phone video recorded without police knowledge, shows one officer throwing Octavius Johnson to the ground. Later, he appears to punch Johnson three times.
Officers also arrested Johnson's brother Juaquez, who was also taking pictures of the arrest from the street.
When Juaquez Johnson refused to follow officer's orders and turn over the camera, he ran into the family's home. Officers chased him into the house, seized the camera, and arrested Johnson. A third brother, Demetrius, was arrested on an outstanding warrant.
KMTV Action 3 News first broadcast the cell phone video Thursday. Saturday, Police Chief Todd Schmaderer pledged a full-scale internal investigation.
