Law Enforcement Stepped Up DUI Patrols Over Holiday
Omaha, NE - You may have noticed some extra patrols on the roads. The Omaha Police Department conducted eight enforcement operations from Friday, March 8th through Monday, March 18th. The extra patrols were planned to hit during the St. Patrick's Day holiday.
In that time, officers made 51 driving under the influence arrests. 34 of those involved drivers getting caught for DUI for the first time, 11 were second offenses and 5 were felony offenses.
They also cited 124 people for speeding, 12 for careless/negligent driving and 7 minors for having alcohol.
The Nebraska State Patrol arrested 23 drivers for DUI over the holiday weekend.
The State Patrol says they were able to be on high alert this weekend thanks in part to a $19,040 grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.
