By Jennifer Griswold. CREATED Mar 5, 2013

Omaha, NE - The Creighton BlueJays' web site says the Missouri Valley Conference has named Doug McDermott as Larry Bird Player of the Year.

He is the eighth player to win the honor twice.

McDermott was also named First Team All-MVC. It's the third time he's received that honor.

Ethan Wragge earned Sixth Man of the Year honors for the conference.

Seniors Gregory Echenique and Grant Gibbs were Honorable-Mention for the first time. Echenique was also named on the MVC's All-Defensive Team for the third straight time.

According to the school's site, "McDermott ranks second nationally in scoring average (23.4) and points scored (724) and is first with 252 field goals. He was named MVC Player of the Week a record eight times in 2012-13 and National Player of the Week twice."

GoCreighton.com has more on the players' honors.

The BlueJays next game is during the MVC Tournament in St. Louis. They play the winner of Thursday night's Bradley/Drake match. The game is at 12:05 pm on Friday.
