Woman Catches Man Hitting Vehicle with Bat

CREATED Feb. 12, 2013

A man took out a baseball bat and swung it at an Omaha mother's car, and it's all caught on tape.

The woman says it all started on Monday afternoon around 84th and Blondo St. where there was a service truck blocking a lane of traffic.  She says the man may have been mad she didn't let him over, and it escalated from there.

Veronica, who didn’t want her last name mentioned, says the man was driving a red Dodge Neon then sped around her and slammed on his brakes.  This apparently happened multiple times between 84th and 72nd Streets on Blondo.  She honked her horn to get him to stop, and took photos.

Eventually he did stop.  He got out of the car with a baseball bat, and hit the Veronica's vehicle.  She caught it on cell phone video.  Though it didn't break her window, she says she and her two children were really shaken up.

"I don't know what his issue was; I don't know why he did what he did.  My 1-year-old was stunned, my 3-year-old was crying.  I was shaking,” Veronica explained. "We don't know how that other person would react. Obviously my reaction is go get you caught on tape.  If you're going to be stupid, ok I’ll get you on tape."

Police are calling it a Destruction of Property, and says in situations like this, you should only take cell phone video of you feel it's safe enough.  You should also call 911.  Getting a good description of the vehicle, and driver helps authorities as well.
