Lt. Governor Rick Sheehy Resigns
Lincoln, NE - Gov. Dave Heineman announced Saturday morning that he has accepted the resignation of Lt. Governor Rick Sheehy. The resignation is effective immediately.
The governor says he recently became aware of personal choices made by Sheehy and "trust was broken" and he is deeply disappointed.
Gov. Heineman said he met with Sheehy Friday; Sheehy submitted his resignation early Saturday morning. The governor refused to explain the circumstances that led to Sheehy's resignation.
Sheehy announced last year he would be a candidate for governor in 2014. Gov. Heineman says he doubts Sheehy will continue his campaign and if he does, Heineman will not support him.
Governor Heineman says he will begin the search for Sheehy's replacement on Monday.
