Candidate number one, Steve Murley says he's ready to be a part of the Omaha Public School district.
"I think that the district is ready to move forward and knowing that I'm ready to join the team."
Murley is one of three finalists vying for the superintendent spot. In front of hundreds of community members his message resonated loud and clear.
"We talked a lot about student engagement and recognizing schools of today may not meet the needs of a kindergartner who's gonna graduate in 2025 ... and I think that Omaha is uniquely positioned with other large urban school districts across the country to make some significant change and be a leader in public education."
Personalizing education, giving students individualized structure, creating summer learning programs nad engaging more with the community are points Murley brought to the table.
"He believes in communication which is very important with the schools and with the public."
"I think they need someone who's able to lead the district and kind of get a fresh start."
Murley spent 17 years with a school district in Wisconsin. He's currently the superintendent in Iowa City.
The school board there approved a contract for Murley just last week. Days later he told them he had an interview in Omaha.
"I don't want Steve to go somewhere else, because he's doing a good job here he's a talented and intelligent and extremely well organized superintendent."
