Mother Says Teen Killed While Sleeping
The mother of 18-year-old Tre’Veona Smith says she was visiting her great-grandmother when she was shot and killed in her sleep.
Early Sunday morning, Tre’Veona was sleeping in her great-grandmother's home at 42nd & Browne St. Someone shot into the home, and Tre’Veona later died at a hospital.
Smith was a senior at Omaha Northwest High School. She aspired to be a lawyer and said she'd take care of her mother, but now she won't get the chance.
"They took my daughter's life, she didn't deserve this whatsoever because she was a good person at heart," said Delgracious Smith, Tre’Veona’s mother.
Police haven't released much information about the circumstances surrounding this senseless murder.
Her mother says Tre’Veona liked to be at home with her family, and wasn't out on the streets. She enjoyed music, and reading.
"I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. When anybody takes your child's life and you can't do anything about the situation it just hurts so bad,” Delgracious explained. "I want them to find her killer. They need to find my baby's killer and I want justice."
Tre’Veona is the 4th teen murdered in the last 3 months. All of which happened within a 3 ½ mile radius. Anyone with information on this murder should call OPD Crimestoppers at 402-444-STOP.
The Tre’Veona Memorial Fund has been set up at Wells Fargo Banks in Omaha.
