Jacob Dickmeyer died in a rollover crash around 1:15 Monday morning on West Dodge Road near 208th Street.
The 18-year-old from Valley was driving. His friend 19-year-old Colby Burke was also in the car. Burke went to the hospital for his injuries but has since been released.
Jacob's father, Terry Dickmeyer, calls his son's death senseless.
He wants all teens to read a letter, hoping it might prevent them from drinking and driving, even if it didn't stop his son. Dickmeyer even plans to pass out copies at his son's viewing Friday.
Terry Dickmeyer says, "I know how kids are, they get behind the wheel, they think they're invincible, they can do this and do that. I was that age once, and I just hoped after reading something like that he'd take it to heart."
Police says the teens were drinking at the Fire Barn Bar and Grill in Waterloo before the crash. Police say 19-year-old Amanda Heiman who served them at the bar were friends and knew they were underage. She lent them her car that night, according to police. Terry Dickmeyer says he's friends with Amanda's family and has no harsh feelings toward her. Instead he wants to promote a positive message.
