OMAHA - A UNO student is in critical condition after someone shot him in the Burger King drive-thru near 72nd and Grover in an apparent car-jacking. It happened Tuesday night around 10 p.m.
Police say 21-year-old Alexander Dike was shot while waiting in the drive-thru. Dike told authorities that a man came from behind his car, pointed a gun at him, and demanded he give up the vehicle. When Dike rolled up his window, the suspect apparently shot him twice. He was hit at least once in the face. He was transported to the Nebraska Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Police were not able to track down the suspects.
The men were believed to have fled to the north. People who saw police converge on the scene say it was a frightening situation.
"It was pretty scary. We didn't know which direction they ran," said Cindy Abbot. "I suppose you can get good and bad people in any part of town. I like to think this is a good neighborhood, there's a lot of families here, a lot of older people here, it's pretty quiet but it does concern a bit being so close to the interstate."
Dike is a UNO student from Norfolk, NE who is studying Computer Science at the Peter Kiewit Institute.
The suspects are described as two white males, in their 20-30's, one wearing a blue hoodie and jeans, and the other wearing a dark hooded jacket.
