ConAgra Feeds More than 3,000 for the Holidays
The dining room at the Open Door Mission is filled with holiday spirit. Families big and small are here to get a hot meal.
"It means a lot. Every body's hurting out there right now, every body needs help."
With help from ConAgra and the Open Door Mission, people are getting what they need this time of year; a shoulder to lean on.
"We have these families that you know a gallon of gas a gallon of milk is the same price. They're just struggling to make ends meat, keep their lights on, pay their rent and then you have the holidays."
The "Shine the Light on Hunger" campaign helps to ease the struggle some families face around the holidays and ConAgra is doing it the only way they know how.
"We get up into the thousands of pounds when you're talking about meat and potatoes and your veg, so we're probably talking about 8 thousand pounds of food for the community of people we are serving tonight."
They're serving it up hot. Roast beef, mashed potatoes, fruits, veggies even desserts. Hundreds of volunteers made it happen with ours spent prepping in the kitchen.
"I wanted to come. How come you wanted to? Cause I like helping people. I'm gonna be serving food and cleaning."
Giving to those in need, means the world to those who need it.
"I have never seen so many people struggling and needing help and it means a lot that there are people out there willing to help everybody."
