Iowa Will Miss Health Care Deadline
The Associated Press
Des Moines, IA - Iowa will not meet a federal deadline to comply with the Affordable Care Act.
Governor Terry Branstad plans to inform the federal government Friday that Iowa does not have enough information to move forward with a state health exchange. Friday is the deadline for all states to confirm whether they will create the exchanges for consumers and small businesses.
A spokesman for Governor Branstad calls the friday deadline arbitrary and criticizes the federal government for not answering basic questions that would help states choose the best option.
Nebraska has been given a deadline extension. Last week, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services gave Nebraska until December 14 to submit a plan for a health insurance exchange.
