Terry Returns for Eighth Term in Congress
Omaha, NE - By the time Lee Terry could finally say, "We Won!", most of his supporters had already called it a night. He didn't claim victory until after 11:00 Tuesday night.
Terry beat Douglas County Treasurer John Ewing and will begin his eighth term in Congress. The race remained close in Douglas County most of the night. Terry waited until the Sarpy County vote came in, giving him the victory.
In the second congressional district, Terry won 51% to 49%. The results are very similar to an Omaha World-Herald poll published in late October, showing how close the race had become.
"I really appreciate the people's support on it," said Terry. "But there's so much work that has to be done in Washington D.C., so right now my thoughts are moving to the fiscal cliff and tax reform and all of these issues."
Ewing thanked a crowd of friends and supports at the Omaha Hilton, "This race was not about John Ewing. My thirty years of public service , it's never about me. It's really being able to serve the people and I've been blessed to do that."
Nebraska voters also re-elected Congressmen Jeff Fortenberry and Adrian Smith. Both are also republicans.
