Red Cross Volunteers Deploy to Help Sandy Survivors
CREATED Oct. 31, 2012
Omaha, NE – Two local American Red Cross volunteers are already on the east coast. Additional Red Cross volunteers from Nebraska are heading to New Jersey.
All four Nebraska-based emergency response vehicles will be travelling to the east coast. The ERV teams are capable of delivering water, food, supplies and comfort items in and near affected areas.
Nick Kmezick is one of the volunteers leaving today. He says it’s not only about the food and supplies volunteers are also there for a shoulder to lean on.
“We’re all part of this broad human community and during a disaster I guess the least thing we deserve is a little humanity,” says Kmezick.
Nearly three dozen volunteers will be deployed from our area. They are expected to leave in the next few days.
