Omaha, NE - With a clear spring in his step this morning, Bob Kerrey is happy with the numbers in a new poll published Sunday by the Omaha World Herald. "What's happening is people are on their own, saying you've got the experience to do the job and we want you to represent us," said Kerrey.
The poll shows Fischer still leads the race for U.S. Senate in Nebraska, 48% to 45%, but Kerrey has closed the gap. Last month, a World Herald poll showed Kerrey behind by ten points. Kerrey says his relentless attack ad labeling Fischer a bad neighbor probably has something to do with it, "I think the story that Senator Fischer's neighbors told about her effort to take land from the elderly couple, that's beginning to have an impact on people's judgment of her character."
Deb Fischer's campaign isn't buying the World Herald poll. The Fischer campaign provided this statement Sunday, "Our polling shows Senator Fischer with a 16-point lead, confirming that Nebraskans are responding to her strong support for balancing the budget, cutting spending and repealing Obamacare. Nebraskans are rejecting Bob Kerrey's desperate negative campaigning. He's a liberal Democrat who supports the failed policies of President Obama."
