Homemade Fruit Cake Helps Local Hospital
CREATED Oct. 25, 2012
Omaha, NE- The holidays are right around the corner and volunteers rolled up their sleeves to make a tasty treat that gives back.
Dozens of people were in the kitchen at Alegent-Creighton Health Midlands Hospital on Monday night. They mixed up their world famous fruit cake; a wonderful combination of pecans, dates, cherries and pineapples.
"I think it's important to show community support for our hospital. It's great camaraderie for all of the volunteers to feel like they are able to give back," says volunteer Carol Maguire.
Nearly 3,000 cakes went into the oven to help raise money for improvements to the hospital.
The fruit cakes are on sale in the hospital's gift shop through Saturday.
