One Teen Killed, One Wounded In North Omaha Shooting

By Justin Pazera. CREATED Oct 21, 2012

The pastor at a North Omaha Church cancelled services Sunday morning. Just steps away, police processed a murder scene. A gunman shot two 16-year olds.  Montrell Wiseman died in the neighborhood where he liked to hang out.

A friend of victim says, "I saw him like three days ago. He was on my porch. We were just talking."  Wiseman's friends got the call in the middle of the night, their best friend is gone. Wiseman's friend says, "All i know is a van came up and shot him and that's it."

Friends set up a make-shift memorial where the teen died. Tears, teddy bears and messages show he won't be forgotten. Meanwhile just a few streets away, it's a song for 37-year old Jamie Moss.  On friday his sister found him dead in a home where he stayed. She's sick and tired of the violence.  Barbara Martin-Robinson says, "Gun shots are not normal. Murder and homicide is not normal. That's not a way to live."

On Manderson Street, cries for comfort - mourners shouted at times. A community hoping to change the course of violence in its young people. Martin-Robinson says, "I was a gang member. i was on drugs and if it wasn't for god's grace and people giving me a chance - it didn't click right away."  Community leaders here are hoping something positive clicks with its youth. They say vigils like this are comforting but the outreach should not stop when the prayers are over.  State Senator Brenda

Council says, "We have to be together 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days of the year looking out for our community and trying to grow our community."  For now it's a period of grief stretching across streets, hoping the pain will end soon. The female victim in Sunday's shooting was taken to Creighton with non-life threatening injuries.
