Iowa-Nebraska NAACP Leader Can't Back Gay Marriage

Des Moines, IA (AP) - The president of the Iowa and Nebraska conference of NAACP branches says he's struggling with the national group's board resolution to support same-sex marriage.

The Rev. Keith Ratliff Sr. told The Des Moines Register (http://dmreg.co/Jcu8NG) that the endorsement has made him uncertain about his future with the group. He's a member of the national board of directors for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, but he didn't attend Saturday's board meeting during which the resolution was approved.

Ratliff has long opposed same-sex marriage.

He says he is reconsidering his NAACP membership and leadership role and is "praying over the matter." Ratliff says he wants to talk to other national NAACP officials before making his decision.
