Omaha, NE - Separate shootings in North Omaha early Tuesday afternoon put three schools on temporary lockdown and sent one man to the hospital.
Police tell KMTV Action 3 News Farrell Mitchell, 20, was shot just blocks away from Miller Park. He went to Creighton University Medical Center in a private vehicle with what's being described as non-life threatening injuries. Now, the search is on for a suspect.
Adding to the bedlam was another shooting, this one a drive-by, that happened around the same time. Police say someone targeted a student at Blackburn Alternative High School. Fortunately, he was not hurt nor was anyone else. The combined incidents, however, forced Kellom Elementary, Miller Park Elementary and Blackburn to go on lockdown for about 30 minutes.
"It was just a safety measure considering we had shots fired in the area," said Officer Jake Bettin with the Omaha Police Department.
Tense moments for those who live in North Omaha, especially for the residents who have kids.
"I don't know what to think now," said Kourtney King. "It's crazy. I just don't understand it."
If you think you have a tip that may lead police to a suspect, you're urged to give them a call.
