  • This was up in Gretna around 10:30 while waiting for the rain to quit we got some tiny hail. Mike from Council Bluffs

  • This picture was taken in Red Oak, IA from Carla Volner. We started out with pea sized hail then went marble to golf ball sized. It hailed for half an hour to 45 mins relentlessly. My advice for those who would collect the hail through the storm such as I was with an umbrella, when I reached down to collect one hail stone I felt as though I was thrown a 90+ mile hour baseball on the hand..ouch..lesson learned...wait out the storm:) I collected about 30+ hail stones and now they sit in the freezer for admiration since I and my husband have never seen such huge hail. on air

  • This middle day of winter was a special day for me. My husband and I were driving around Platte River State Park and came upon a flock of geese winterizing on a pond. There were Canadian gese, semi-tame Graylag geese and two ducks. As soon as the Graylag geese and ducks saw us walking toward the pond, the race was on. I don't think these geese or ducks stick to a feeding schedule. The Graylag goose in the photo got tired of me taking pictures and went out on the ice to see if it could find something more interesting than me. When I got home to view my photos, the first thing I said to myself, what is that goose looking at? This photo is that it is a mind thinker. Kim Strausbaugh- Omaha, NE

  • My husband and I were out visiting the 3 local state parks and found a flock of Canadian geese wintering at Platte River State Park, the pond doesn't completely freeze over. At first, I was taking alot of distance pictures until we started throwing corn out on the ice. I got some wonderful close-up shots. Kim Strausbaugh- Omaha, NE

  • If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, looks like a duck, it must be a duck. Well, not all. Inside the Platte River State Park, there's a pond with two ducks that have pair bonded with two Graylag geese. Oddly the geese don't seem to mind the ducks. A flock of Canadian geese winterize there as well. To ease the winter blues, take a gander--you'll get goose bumps! These delightful birds are a joy to feed, watch and photograph. Kim Strausbaugh- Omaha, NE

  • Groundhog Punxsutawney Phil forecasted six more weeks. Feeling that winter gloom! You don't get an appreciation of the power of nature until you've experienced it and the best time is in the winter. Platte River State Park has a flock of geese winterizing there. Quote: when the goose honk high, fair weather; when the goose honks low, foul weather. The three geese in the photo were walking honking high, walking fast, slipping and sliding. Kim Strausbaugh- Omaha, NE

  • This morning, my husband called me to look out into our back yard. It was snowing quite heavily, but that wasn't what he was point out! We have a large birdbath that we use as an open bird feeder in the wintertime. Our neighborhood flock of turkeys never comes in our back yard because of our Schnauzers, so we were shocked to see these visitors eating!! In the third photo, two of them lifted up into the air and hopped on the fence as the same time. Very cool!
