High school student expelled for performing in porn may return to class

An 18-year-old Florida student who was kicked out of his high school after it was discovered he performed in a pornographic film has been reinstated at the school.

Senior Robert Marucci says he took the film role to help out his family financially. But when other students at Cocoa High School in Brevard County found his image on a pornography site, the school took action, according to Orlando TV station WKMG Local 6. Marucci says he was expelled because of his extracurricular job.

The school, which uses the word “suspended” rather than “expelled,” won’t say give a reason for its action, but gave Marucci a referral slip claiming he made threats. Marucci denies that claim, and local police were not notified by the school of any threat.

Some of Marucci’s fellow students disagreed with the administration’s decision an held a walkout on Friday in an attempt to ensure their classmate can graduate in May.

Now, district officials are saying their investigation is over and Marucci may return to class on Wednesday.

"No child would ever be suspended for a job that they have outside of the school environment,"  Michelle Irwin, a spokesperson for the district, told Local 6.

Marucci's mother, Melyssa Lieb, told the TV station on Monday that a school administrator “flat out told me that my son was expelled not just suspended, he was expelled due to his explicit, adult, lifestyle career.”

Marucci said he took the job “to help my mother out economically."
