EAST VALLEY - Couches. Mattresses. Tires. The piles of debris scattered along Avenue 44, between Golf Center Parkway and Dillon Road, seem to accumulate. This two-mile stretch of a road borders Indio and Coachella.
According to both cities' Public Works Departments, they get calls regularly for illegal dumping on this deserted road. The City of Indio
says it does randomly check Avenue 44 for abandoned items that could be hazardous to the public and when people call in to complain. The City of Coachella
also maintains that it picks up the trash within 24 hours of a complaint call.
Some residents say this eyesore gives the East Valley a bad image, but as long as the sides of Avenue 44 remain undeveloped and far away from the city, it's hard to say if people will ever stop dumping items illegally.
