UPDATE Fatal House Fire in Desert Hot Springs

CREATED Jul. 30, 2013

DESERT HOT SPRINGS - Riverside County Fire officials found a woman dead inside a burnt house near the 66200 block of Pierson Boulevard. Riverside County Coroner's Office has identified her as 28-year-old Veronica Reyes.

Fire officials responded to the scene at 8:33 a.m. and put out the fire in 15 minutues. The streets surrounding the house were blocked off for more than five hours by the Desert Hot Springs Police Department. Some neighbors in the area witnessed the incident.
"I saw smoke coming out of that house and a little bit of fire, and the firemen were already here," said Hector Vivian who lives across the street from the house.
Officials said the house was abandoned and boarded up. Vivian said he often saw people coming in and out of the house.
"A couple days ago I saw a couple, they seemed homeless, like those people looking for the cans. I saw them coming out of the property. I told my wife we're going to call the city to let them know what's going on," shared Vivian.
Cal Fire officials and DHSPD are investigating the cause of the fire.
